Senior Observability Engineer (Splunk & AppDynamics)

1. Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Observability Engineer to join our new Professional Services company as the founding technical hire. This engineer will be fully onsite with a strategic customer in KSA and responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing Splunk and AppDynamics as enterprise observability platforms.
  • Assessing the customer’s architecture and operations to define a strategic roadmap.
  • Leading delivery from initial setup to continuous support, ensuring full visibility across applications, infrastructure, and business KPIs.
  • Supporting presales initiatives and mentoring future engineers as the company grows.

This role is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise, architectural vision, and leadership potential.

2. Key Responsibilities

Customer Delivery

  • Act as the primary onsite engineer for Splunk and AppDynamics.
  • Assess customer environment and requirements; design observability architecture.
  • Implement Splunk (data ingestion, SPL queries, dashboards, ITSI, integrations).
  • Deploy AppDynamics modules: APM, EUM, DB Agents, and Synthetic Monitoring.
  • Provide ongoing operational support, tuning, and platform optimization.
  • Engage with customer teams to collect inputs, resolve blockers, and ensure delivery progress.

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and document a scalable observability framework aligned with business goals.
  • Establish KPIs, dashboards, and alerting for end-to-end visibility.
  • Create a roadmap for observability maturity (short, medium, and long term).
  • Ensure alignment with hybrid/cloud enterprise IT landscapes.

Presales & Practice Growth

  • Contribute to presales activities (demos, PoVs, proposals) as needed.
  • Help develop methodologies, reusable assets, and best practices.
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring new engineers as the team expands.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with customers.

3. Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years in IT operations, observability, or monitoring engineering roles.
  • Hands-on expertise in Splunk (Core, ITSI, SPL queries, dashboards, data onboarding, integrations).
  • Strong experience with AppDynamics (APM, EUM, DB Agents, Synthetic Monitoring).
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and YAML for integrations and automation.
  • Ability to instrument custom applications (Java, .NET) for AppDynamics agents (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise applications, databases, networks, and cloud/on-prem environments.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Comfortable working as the sole engineer onsite with high accountability.

4. Preferred Skills

  • Presales experience (workshops, proposals, customer presentations).
  • Knowledge of complementary tools (ServiceNow, Elastic, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Previous team leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Exposure to enterprise or government customers in KSA.

5. Growth Path

  • Phase 1: Lead Splunk & AppDynamics delivery onsite.
  • Phase 2: Transition into Team Lead, mentoring additional engineers.
  • Phase 3: Contribute to practice growth, presales support, and strategic expansion.

6. Confidence Level

  • High confidence (95%): Responsibilities and skill requirements align with verified Splunk/AppDynamics engineering job postings and partner role expectations.
  • Moderate confidence (80%): Advanced programming (Java/.NET) is not always required but valuable for APM instrumentation; listed as “preferred.”
